St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club
Since we moved to St. Petersburg, FL about a year and a half ago, we’ve been looking for places we can enjoy that would help us to meet new people. Josh and I recently decided to visit the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club. It’s located just a few minutes from our house, close enough that we can walk there! Our neighborhood association had a tournament there for all of the neighborhoods in St. Pete. We ended up having a great time, met a few people that we may or may not see again and learned a little bit more about the game of shuffleboard.
I always thought of Shuffleboard as being a game that younger people didn’t play. I guess what I mean, is that I had not considered it as something that I would ever be interested in. It turns out that it is an easy game to play. All you need is a partner and you’re good to go! You can find another team to play against at the shuffleboard club, or you can come as a group of 4 and play against friends. Just remember, a stranger is a friend that you haven’t met, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and seek out some people to play against. Josh and I went recently on a Friday night. Friday’s are free from 7 pm – 10 pm. If there isn’t another team to play against, you can just play against your partner, and that’s what we did.
It’s easy to get stuck in the rut of routine. Josh and I spend most evenings chilling on the couch, watching a movie, while we play on our phones, or while I’m working on a crochet or knitting project. It was refreshing to take a walk to the shuffleboard club and play outside at night! They even allow you to bring your dogs as long as they are well behaved. Maizy came along for the fun and each time before my turn, I gave her a pet for good luck!
